This White Carnation Flower Wall Was An Epic Surprise For The Groom
The pièce de résistance to Brett and Erik’s San Antonio microwedding was most certainly the white carnation flower wall from Statue Of Design. More than just a pretty face, this surprise for the groom was a way to honor him and his grandparents. For 60 years, Erik’s grandfather has been giving his wife white carnations – a tradition that Erik borrowed after learning how much Brett adored flowers. We love a good romantic gesture, and seeing couples incorporate so much meaning into their wedding days pulls at our heartstrings every time. Sara Walker Events coordinated the surprise seamlessly, and there was nothing but ear-to-ear grins from the “raining petals” ceremony to the courtyard dinner. We cannot wait for you to pore over these visual heirlooms from the day as captured by Leah Thomason Photography and dream up some sentimental design moments of your own!
Let’s hear from the Couple, shall we?
What elements/decor details did you incorporate that were unique to your story:
Our wedding was held during a pandemic so we thought it would be appropriate to make it small and intimate. In order to keep our loved one’s safe, healthy, & comfortable, there were beautiful flower arrangements in planter boxes between seats to keep the guest separated. Oh, and also my mother had the cutest individual hand sanitizers & masks made for our guest. SAFETY FIRST!
What are some of your favorite memories of the day:
Oh, there are so many! Well other than seeing my future husband waiting at the altar for me, it would be when I shared two small moments with my mother and father. Not only did I write a letter to my future husband but I also wrote a letter to my mom, thanking her, letting her know how much I love her and that I will always be by her side. The small moment with my father was right before we walked down the aisle. We went into a separate room to talk, calm our nerves, look back at the good times, and think of the future. All of these memories I will cherish forever.
What are some of the most important aspects/design elements of the day:Their most important design for our wedding was a wall with cascading carnations at the altar. I knew I wanted to surprise my to-be husband by honoring his grandparents with this wall. When I first met Erik, I told him.”I love flowers, all flowers”. One day, while dating, Erik showed up at my house with white carnations. He told me his grandfather always gave his grandmother carnations. That was their thing that lasted 60 years. On our wedding day, STATUE OF DESIGN helped me surprise my husband, his family, and most importantly honor his grandparents. The carnation wall was absolutely stunning!
What made you choose your specific location for your wedding?: We wanted somewhere that would be local, covid-friendly, and intimate. Club Giraud, located on the San Antonio riverwalk, gave us all of that. Their patio had so much greenery that melted in with all the floral designs and not to mention we were able to leave the ceremony via boat! Yes, a bright red fiesta boat picked us up and we floated down the San Antonio river to our hotel where close friends were waiting to celebrate with us.
