Dramatic Woodland Wedding Inspiration with Burgundy Accents

Now that Labor Day has passed, we’re well on our way to fall — and we couldn’t be happier about it! We’re ready for all the moody colors, woodland settings, and dramatic details, and you’ll happen to find all of these in today’s styled shoot from Katie Ricard Photography and Kensington Florals & Events. The bride’s burgundy lace coverup is especially catching our eye, not to mention the incredible wedding cake with a miniature chandelier actually inside the cake.

From the event designer, Kensington Florals & Events: In this industry, vendors (especially during wedding season) can feel overwhelmed and a bit stretched thin. Because I wanted a change of a scenery and just need to “get away” so to speak, I went to one of my favorite wooded areas one morning to just clear my head and get some insight. The air was wet and there was a bit of a mist on the ground that traveled a bit up the tree trunks. It smelled of dew and the morning was grey and moody. There on the gravel path is where I saw it, the cake prominent in the center with doors opening to a sort of fairy land) and mist cover. On the ground were the smallest wildflowers in purples, reds and yellows and I could just picture this angelic gorgeous red head in a draping gown on a ladder fixing a rundown chandelier. There it was, laid out in front of me, and I could just picture every piece of this puzzle. I went on the walk in my favorite woods with so much on my mind and left with clarity and excitement of who would best help bring this vision to life. Each vendor has surpassed my expectations and made my dreams literally come true! Couldn’t be happier with everyone’s work.

Being able to work with hand selected vendors on this incredible shoot has been my favorite component. Knowing the level of skill and talent that each vendor was able to provide elevated this styled shoot to the next level. I remember when I emailed Yvonne, from Penthouse Sweets and telling her I wanted to try to incorporate a chandelier in the shoot and possibly mist and waiting for her returned thoughts. Something that wasn’t so obvious but a nice detail that would be more of a surprise to viewers. I believe it was about 30 minutes later that she responded with a photo of a chandelier that she wanted to place inside the cake. It was instant goose pimples from all my excitement and I couldn’t sleep for about three days just thinking of all the elements of the shoot simply coming together. The décor and cake were my favorite “cool parts” of the shoot. The broken moss-covered ladder with the hanging “aged” chandelier, the old burgundy work bench that we mossed, the distressed doors that were sanded and repainted with the mist showcasing the cake we all favorites and cool parts of the shoot. They really brought the dream to life and we were able to capture a gorgeous, out of the box vision that each of us played a major role in. This was honestly a dream come true!

I had worked with Katie, Katie Ricard Photography, on a wedding the previous year and I knew instantly the way she approached the floral pieces and details from the wedding that she was an excellent photographer. I wanted to give her pieces of an entire puzzle to capture in whole and in part and really make each component shine. Katie was also great with accepting and being open to my suggestions and allowing me to sort of step in, when needed, and see if we could capture a moment in the way I had seen it in my head. Dame Couture (Daniela), Sew Bridal (Kelly) and Calla Couture Jewelers (Cristina) were just wonderful to work with. They were working off a simple vision/inspiration board and they were able to mimic my fairy tale, whimsical look. From the draping gown to the faux fur wrap to the 1920’s inspired accessories pieces. Each made Kristine look the part! Sarah Delaine’s team of hair and makeup were able to take a few inspirational photos and some babbled words and make Kristine look like an angel at the Grove Redfield Estate. Working closely with Peter on a perfect suit to bring in our navy color pop worked wonderfully against our backdrop.
