Must-See Guatemala Destination Wedding at an 18th Century Convent

Antigua wedding ceremony

This elegant wedding is what destination wedding dreams are made of! Gladys and Juan got married in beautiful ancient ruins in Antigua, Guatemala, and were popping bottles with their family and closest friends. Beautifully planned with Carolina Mendez Events this wedding effortlessly incorporated the glam of contemporary blacks and golds to the historical location now Guatemala wedding venue called Convento Santa Clara. These 18th Century ruins and grounds rich in history made for the most gorgeous stage for Gladys and Juan’s wedding shot by Daniel Lopez Perez.

From the photographer, Daniel Lopez Perez: Gladys & Juan decided to have their wedding in the beautiful colonial town of Antigua, Guatemala, since Juan’s mother is originally from Guatemala. Antigua is a quiet colonial town, famous for its colorful walls and cobblestone streets. It also rests in the highlands of Guatemala and is surrounded by three volcanoes.

From the photographer, Daniel Lopez Perez: Hidden among the streets of Antigua are the ruins of an 18th Century convent called Santa Clara. These ruins are a sprawling compound of rustic walkways and a gorgeous, open-roofed temple, where the couple decided to have their wedding ceremony. The bride donned a simple fitted dress from Modern Trousseau and the groomed complimented her with a custom-made burgundy suit by InStitchU. The bridesmaids and groomsmen wore all black, with each bridesmaid carrying a simple white calla lily instead of a bouquet.

From the photographer, Daniel Lopez Perez: The design and décor of the wedding was based with modern gold candle-holders and table settings, set off by the black candles that matched perfectly with the attire of the bridal party. All florals were green and white, a subtle detail that didn’t take away from the gorgeous wedding location.
