Collaborative Pennsylvania Farm Wedding
When bride and groom Heather and Scott started to take on endless DIY projects for their wedding day, they had no shortage of friends and family willing to lend a hand and help tackle the decor. The result is a day at Fox Hill Farm that’s a true collaborative effort, with beautiful thoughtful details everywhere you turn and a wedding photographed by Justin Tearney that will be remembered for years and years to come.
From the bride, Heather: It was really important to us that our celebration reflected and honored our individuals stories and our history together. My grandmother was an artist and her hand painted silk scarves made beautiful runners for the dessert tables, cocktail tables and more. I even used one of her unpainted scarves as a sash. Scott, a photographer, brought his father’s 4×5 camera to be used in photographs. We had recently moved back North after living in Nashville for eight years, so we went with a Southern inspired menu including chicken and waffles, Mac and cheese, hush puppies and pork belly sliders. Scott’s father is known in our families for his pies, and we were excited to have him supplement the amazing desserts made by Allie’s Cupcakery and Cafe with some of our favorite pies he makes.
My father is a woodworker and designer and crafted an amazing bar using antique doors, live edge details, and a copper top. It fit in so perfectly at the venue in their Civil War era barn and existing use of antique doors that it ended up staying for use by future couples. In addition he made a second bar section to hide the kegs, and two beautiful live edge tables, one for the photo booth and one for refreshments and programs at the entrance to the ceremony. He also made the wooden welcome sign Heather wrote on to mark the entrance of the venue.
One of our favorite parts of the whole experience was how collaborative it was. Perhaps our friends and families thought we were a little wacky for how many DIY projects we took on, but if they did they never let on, and pitched in enthusiastically to help us in any way they could. Heather and her sisters all worked together to dip dye over 100 napkins. Scott’s sister and her husband surprised us with an incredible performance of Closer to You by Brandi Carlile during the reception. Heather’s mother was the master organizer which is perhaps the most important part when you are planning a completely DIY wedding. The whole event ended up going off without a hitch and we have no doubt it is because of all of the help we had from family and friends in so many more ways than we could ever list here.
