Texas Hill Country Wedding At The Bride’s Family Home

Today’s Texas Hill country wedding is a testament to the power of love. While Katy and Steven originally had their hearts set on Mexico City as their destination for an April wedding, they ultimately opted for a more intimate affair at the bride’s family home due to the global pandemic. With sun-kissed landscapes and a rustic chic stone patio, the location couldn’t have been more idyllic for this brisk November celebration. Jona Christina Photography captures all the gleeful moments in this vibrant gallery with composition we can only make like Italians and say mamma mia to. The already lovely spaces are elevated exponentially by the thoughtfully arranged blooms from Sprout Florals – just wait til you see the splendorous blooms climbing the ceremony backdrop tree! Rich with sandstone, rust and golden hues, this Texas Hill country wedding is one we’ll be talking about for a long, long time.

From the Couple: As the saying goes, the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry. And boy did 2020 leave our plans in the dust. In late March, as we were in the final weeks of planning our 100 person Mexico City wedding, life as we knew it halted to a stop. The lockdown of those first few weeks made our decision easy. We had no other option but to pick a new date. November 4th felt like enough distance in the future to hope we could keep our original plan but also allowed us to be adaptive if needed.

As the summer rolled around, like many couples, we started fresh with a new vision of our day. Our original plan included a church ceremony in Stonewall, Texas, in the church where my parents were married, before heading to Mexico City. We decided that our Texas Hill Country mini-ceremony would become the main event.

With a new plan in place, we built the details around a few new wants and considerations. The safety and comfort of our guests became our top priority. We altered our plans from a church ceremony indoors to an outdoor setting. We downsized our guest list to only our immediate families, with 25 (quarantined and COIVD-tested) guests total. While it was hard to imagine the day without our friends and extended family, we knew this decision would create an intimate setting where our guests could relax and feel safe. It also gave us extra time with our family, whom we’d been keeping a distance from for months.

When picking a venue, we decided that my parent’s vacation property, an 1890s secluded farmhouse just outside of Stonewall, Texas, was the ideal place. With an oak tree draping a dramatic canopy over the yard and a grassy field that is kept perfectly unkept, we knew this would be a perfect backdrop for a fall wedding. The home boasts an oversized stone patio, an ideal spot for a long, leisurely dinner at a table large enough to welcome all our guests.

Our vision for the evening was an intimate and elevated backyard dinner party. Casual vibes and special touches abound. We worked with Loot Rentals and Sprout Floral Event & Design to create the majestic backdrop for that vision. Our color palette, inspired by West Texas sunsets, was a color profile our Marfa-based photographer Jona, of Jona Christina Photography, knew well. Sunkissed yellow, earthy rust, burnt orange, sandstone, and dusty rose colors adorned the dining table and old oak tree where we exchanged our vows. Other small touches included monogrammed linen napkins, watercolor painted place cards, handmade batch cocktails, and a live band playing our favorite soul and funk jams.

While not what we planned, the evening was magical. Each guest (including a few tiny ones) gave toasts and told stories, sharing memories in the same way families do at the casual dining table. As we reflected weeks later, we realized that we hosted more than a wedding that day. We hosted an evening of togetherness that we all had been missing and needing so much.”

Is Katy and Steven’s Texas sunset-inspired wedding not one to treasure forever?! We’re obsessed. From the intimate moments they were able to share with each and every one of their guests to the thoughtfully curated details as each part of the day unfolded, we love the way they invested in an experience above all else… an experience with love at the center. Congrats K+S!
