Kelsie and Cody said “I Do” on a sun-kissed day overflowing with meaningful moments. Their Paso Robles vineyard wedding honored loved ones, told their story and presented an authentic reflection of who they are as individuals and as a couple. Kristyn Villars Photography didn’t skip a beat with the visual heirlooms you’re soon to explore below, as every touching detail was captured with grace. A modern grid pattern was woven throughout the design elements from the ceremony backdrop to the seating chart handmade by the groom himself to the custom ice cream desserts! Sandcastle Celebrations was there to ensure all the decor told their story cohesively, and we are loving the bold, trendsetting vignettes that resulted! This darling outdoor bash was bedecked with brown lisianthus, fluffy butter fly ranunculus, blue thistle, bunny tails and copper beech from Flowers by Kim… we’re in a total floral frenzy after seeing it all! Grab yourself a glass of vino and settle in because you’re going to fall head over heels for what’s in store.

From the Bride, Kelsie: As many women do, I had dreamed of my wedding since I was a small girl. I have always had visions of an altar dripping in floral and glasses overflowing with champagne; guests dancing under string lights soaking up the ambiance of my perfect wedding. These dreams became reality when I met Cody. It was late spring of 2013 when I began a relationship with a sweet young man who would some day make me his wife.

We learned as much as we could about each other and from each other over the next few years. We shared passions, adventures, and, most importantly, cultivated some incredible friendships together. We also shared in something tragic. In November of 2014 I received a call that my best friend and house mate, Sabrina, had lost her life in a car accident. Cody was the first person I called after receiving that heart breaking phone call. Sabrina was Cody’s dear friend too. However, in this moment, he stored all of his sorrow and sadness away for my benefit. He took care of me in a way no one else had in my life. It was during this time we grew closer and fully embraced how precious life really is.

Although we lost Sabrina, we gained many other relationships. One of the most important relationships we gained was her sweet niece Areanna. Cody and I both made it a point to spend every holiday with her and have her at our home as often as possible. We wanted teach her things her lovely aunt would have. Cody grew into “Uncle Cody “. His love for her was so pure and it was in these moments of watching them together that I knew I was right from the beginning. I had found “the one”.

A few years later, Cody decided to let me know he also believed he had found “the one” by asking me to be his forever on a rainy November night at home. It was intimate, simple, and so immensely special. The time had finally come for these visions of a wedding to be turned into reality! And so began the wedding planning process!

Being a wedding professional myself, it was extremely difficult to make choices on vendors and design. Every little detail felt so important to me. Finally a few months deep in planning we had decided to go true “classic” with our design. Loads of white blooms and lush greenery. Tons soft natural textures – nothing flashy or different! We loved the idea and we ran with it. However there were some hesitations in the pit of my stomach. There was a particular La Tavola velvet linen that I couldn’t let go of – velvet sea foam. It is the most beautiful crisp light blue. Not to mention the texture of a velvet table drape, layered with an Aurora runner over it – come on! It’s like the first sip of wine after a long day at work – it’s divine. I tucked my love for this color behind me and pushed forward with the design we had originally committed to. Until one afternoon while at work at All About Events I discovered what I now know as Copper Beach. It was the most beautiful branch! Golden and glorious in the way it stood out among other botanicals. I LOVED it and I needed it! I held it up to a swatch book of that sea foam velvet and my heart sang. I compulsively called my florist – I began to describe my vision in floral. Brown lisianthus, fluffy butter fly ranunculus, blue thistle and bunny tails. But not just one type, multiple types of bunny tails. All the things a texture dream is made of. Kim with Flowers by Kim was more then accommodating – she was encouraging! And so began our new palette, our new design.

Design was far from Cody’s passion. He is certainly more a do-er if you will. I spoke for hours about the palette of colors and textures I wanted to create – the juxtaposition. It was as important to me to make this wedding just as much about him as it was about my design. How was I going to do this I thought to myself? What could he bring to this? Something real – something tangible. Cody is an avid hunter on the central coast of California. Being an eighth generation local to the area it has been family tradition to source and harvest local game. Together with our caterer, Flora and Fauna, we worked to create menu items Cody could provide for the wedding. We included deer jerky as well as a 100 year old Swiss Sausage recipe at our charcuterie table. We also served fresh ling cod tacos as a passed app. Not only did Cody bring something to the table in food, he also brought his skills to the design. He welded the metal structures used to create my dream seating chart. He even moved them to the venue the morning of the wedding! His talents and strengths shined through at our wedding and I truly believe our guests recognized his contributions.

Cody and I also wanted to bring a non traditional aspect to the wedding. We wanted to skip formal daces and traditions. We wanted this wedding to feel real and like “us”. We turned to Paper Cake Events for this aspect. We asked for something different with our cake. We asked for it to be black! But that wasn’t all we asked – we gave full creative control away. Whitnie, owner of Paper Cake, created us a gorgeous, off center black beauty full of texture. Our cake was a true piece of art. Side note it was coconut and raspberry, a nod to the infamous Zinger – cause I mean who doesn’t love a Zinger?!

It was also important for us to include Sabrina throughout the wedding. We included her in the opening comments during our ceremony and reserved a spot in her memory at the altar with a stool and specially designed bouquet filled with sunflowers, her favorite flower. I also had Breanna, Sabrina’s sister, assist me in putting on my gown. Last but certainly not least we had Areanna as our flower girl. She was beautiful and her aunt would have been so proud to watch her throw petals down the aisle for us. She was spoken about throughout the entire evening. She was remembered, cherished, and so loved. Our wedding could not have been more perfect.
