Painterly Colorblock Wedding Inspiration with Earth Tones
Pardon us while we marvel over this painterly colorblock wedding inspiration for days. It’s a merry color playground beneath a canopy of heritage oaks that’s chock full of mix n match patterns. And oh, the color palette! This summery cool earth tone color palette with apricots and blues are calling our names and we’re running to it.
Texas wedding photographer, Sophie Epton, captures these distinctive details in charming flashes of film and there’s a whole lotta beauty in tow.
Vannagram & Co. melds playful vintage details (like a mint VW van!) with modern pieces in the fashion, lounge vignettes, and that seriously awesome table. Whimsy everywhere!
From the stylist, Emily of Vannagram & Co.: The idea of this styled shoot started with a venue — an old farmhouse where peacocks freely roam tucked in a neighborhood just two minutes from Austin’s bustling downtown. Mattie’s at Green Pastures is an early 19th century mansion that has recently been renovated and modernized. All of the wonderful detailed elements of the old house were kept like the beautiful hardwoods, the chair rail-paneled walls and the hand-carved grand staircase as you enter through the front door, but then updated to reflect today’s modern conveniences.
We’re pretty sure the blooms from Gypsy Floral will give us enough flower power to last a lifetime.
Honestly these one-of-a-kind paper goods from Fine Day Press are making us re-evaluate the stationery in our own lives. And peep that heirloom engagement ring!
Her sophisticated Reem Acra gown from Julian Gold Bridal has an illusion plunge neckline and fits her like a glove. YAS to the handsome, tailored suit from Billy Reid as well!
This scrumptious cake from Polkadots Bakery looks just darling in robin’s egg blue.
This property has a history deeply-rooted in good food and hospitality, serving the likes of Austin’s oldest families, Governors, celebrities, visiting ambassadors and other dignitaries. What I love most about the history of this house is that ever since it opened as a restaurant in 1946, it welcomed any and all races and religions even though many other Austin restaurants would not desegregate until after the Civil Rights Act became law some 18 years later. I love that even in the face of discrimination, this house chose love above all. It shows beyond the character of the house, the owners promoted the character, perseverance and determination to build a foundation of good.
Bridal party fashion from BHLDN making our hearts pop! I mean how darling is that flower girl dress…
The next foundation of inspiration was the color palette which was drawn from a photo that was taken at my wedding in Mexico of tangled lures and strings on the beach. I pulled out the darkest colors and the softest colors in the photo to serve as the color palette. Serendipitously those same colors were almost an exact match of the freshly painted wall colors within Mattie’s mansion.
I don’t care where this champagne truck is going, but I know I want to be on it.
Finally came the vendors and the models. I had been wanting to work with some of these vendors for quite some time and we all seemed to mesh so well as everything came together. We were all on the same page in wanting to create a more modern shoot at a venue that was so rich in history. At our first planning meeting we sat in the bar area at Mattie’s naturally over cocktails to share our expectations and ideas for the shoot and a gal sat down next to our party. We all were taken aback by her beauty – towards the end of our meeting we collectively decided that we needed her to be our bride for the shoot and she happily accepted.
Plush sofas will never go out of style. And these pieces from Birch & Brass Rentals are here to prove that point.
Our groom was found in a kismet-ish kind of way too as he was working the counter at a local coffee shop I frequent. The bride and groom models didn’t even know each other but got along so well and really created beautiful chemistry on film – you never would’ve known they weren’t a couple. All of the vendors involved put so much effort and care into the work that they each produced and it certainly showed throughout the shoot. We all wanted to create something that we were proud to show off and that had a unique sense of style and I feel like we successfully did so.
The name ‘Modern Irony’ came to me once all of these elements came together. I noticed a contrasting push-and-pull common thread throughout all the elements. The light and dark color palette, the old house and the new renovation, the country-like setting in the middle of a city — modern yet timeless.
