Should The Groom Dress The Same As The Groomsmen?

Joshuatree Wedding

Should the groom dress the same as the groomsmen for a wedding? Honestly, there’s no wrong answer! While we love the sense of formality that comes along with uniform fashion, we love seeing grooms stand out from the groomsmen on the wedding day in their own distinctive look too. After all, they deserve just as much of a fashion moment as their partner! It can be tough to know exactly how you’ll tweak your look next to groomsmen, without going down the alternative suit route entirely. But don’t fret, Stitch & Tie is chiming in today to share a number of subtle and straight forward ways you can level up + make this work for your own wedding.

Neckwear

A simple way to have your groom stand out is by changing his neckwear compared to his groomsmen. This could be having him in a bow tie and his groomsmen in long ties. Or by having the groom wear a different color of neckwear compared to his squad.

Suit Color

Another way to have your groom stand out is by having him in a different color, but styled similarly to the rest of the groomsmen. Here all the guys are wearing gray suits with white shirts, but the groom is in a light blue suit with a tropical patterned shirt. We recommend the groom is in a more formal color or style suit than the groomsmen when taking this approach.

Consistency with the wedding style

Here’s an example where the groom is in an entirely different look than the groomsmen, down to his subtly patterned monochromatic pants. The looks contrasted well, and everyone’s outfits matched with the wedding theme and bridesmaids, so it worked!

Focus on the tuxedo jackets

Another bold way to contrast the groom is for him to wear a deeper hued suit than the groomsman.  In this wedding, all of the guys wore champagne ties to fit the elegant color scheme.

Mix and Match

One look that we are always fans of, mix and match! Have everyone wear dapper gray suits while you spice up the neckwear. Just make sure the colors vibe with your overall wedding colors and you’ll be set.  The contrast of colors used in different ways will make your groom pop!
